At least now you know the possible cause of your issues. And, you have the solution in hand. Don't feel to bad. I bought my 3007 in August of 2015 and had to have my port side transmission rebuilt over the winter season of 2016/17. Buying a used boat has outcomes that differ from buying new.

Got the boat back in the water Friday. Mechanic did a trial run with us and he drove it like he stole it. Trans was silent, made a huge difference in the stateroom noise. As noted we sure aren't napping back there, but it's a much better noise than the howling I was hearing.
Diagnosis was planetary gears were damaged along with a bearing. Otherwise the trans was in good health. They did a full rebuild on it just to freshen everything up. The trans rebuild including new planetary gears was $1700. Labor in and out was $1600.
Prop refresh and shaft balancing was another $500.
Overall it was more the time lost on the water rather than the pocketbook that hurt the most.

While trialing the repairs the dropping RPM issue on the port side showed up right away. You could hear the fuel pump whining and then going silent. They are fairly certain the secondary fuel pump is failing. Makes sense since you can cruise at 1900RPM all day long, but pop it anywhere above 2k and it won't take long to start stumbling.

Wednesday we'll go out and put a fuel flow meter on the system and verify the diagnosis and then get that sorted out. Hoping to be 100% solid by next weekend so we can get on with the show. It was good to be back in the water at least. Felt a little odd doing all the first weekend stuff so close to July, but hey we're there! Even the dog was happy to get back on the water.

Being back on the water is a good thing. Hopefully the rest of your season goes well.

If your sure you have nothing restricting the flow to the fuel pump and it sometimes is whining, get a new one. That's a tell tale sign of a failing carter pump.

Thanks man, I’m betting it’s the pump, I just hope they were smart enough to buy one this week so we can diagnose, confirm, and repair in the same day. Tough ask these days, but one can dream!
