FNG-So Many Questions

Postby Dwinn11 » October 2nd, 2021, 8:01 am

Just bought a 1990 2587 Allegra with twin 350 Mercruisers. Been boating on lakes here in Oklahoma my entire life, but this is a big step away from the runabouts and pontoons we ever owned. I know it’s a baby yacht compared to most here, but still lots of systems to figure out and maintain. Hoping this will be the resource we need to help manage the old girl.

Twin 350’s in a 2587? Had no idea Carver would ever put that much power in that small of a boat. In fact, I thought that boat only came with a single engine.
Boat must be crazy fast.

Wow, I didn't notice that, but I agree that would have to be nice!!

The only Allegra I see in the Power Boat Guide is a 3087 and it says "Twin 235hp Volvo sterndrives were standard in the Allegra. She’ll cruise at 20 knots and reach a top speed of around 33 knots. Note the brief two-year production run"

I could not find a 2587 model.

Back then a 25' boat was actually a 30 footer by todays standards. Boat was capable of 50mph with twin 229hp VP's. Rememmber, a 350 back then was about 250hp at best.

We are on Grand Lake in NE OK. I found little reference to the twin 350’s researching prepurchase, but did find twin 305’s listed. The title does list it as 520 HP and those 350’s are rated at 260 so the math adds up. We haven’t had a chance really leg it out yet so can’t say much about top speed. I’d just know when you raise the back bench those 2 SBC’s look pretty cool packed in there!
