Raw water pump fittings

Post by Bilgewater »

Need to replace a Sherwood E35 raw water pump on my '77 Mariner on a 270 engine. I can find the pump, but can't find the fittings that connect the pump to the hoses. Any suggestions?

Can't you re-use the ones that are on the old pump?

Why do you need to replace the pump? You can do minor and major rebuilds on those pumps and it's not that hard to do if you have access to a press somewhere.

Also, if you do have to replace it, then think about "upgrading" to a crank-mounted pump. If you have plenty of room in front of the engine (not all have this!) then it's much easier to replace the impeller when it needs to be done, and it eliminates a belt from the system. You'd have to replace a couple hoses (to and from the pump) too, but it might be worth it in some applications.

How much clearance would you need?
