Fred,

Yes, travelled to Gdansk, Poland in early 2005 to oversee final conversion to our needs, ( vessel was formally a shrimp trawler) and return to Nova Scotia. We are a large offshore factory Trawler that harvests deep sea scallops, mainly in the North Atlantic about 110 nm SW of our home port of Shelburne N.S. Twenty-seven crewmembers including officers. Our last trip total was approx. 181,500lbs of scallops. We are on a sixteen day on sixteen day off rotation twelve months of the year, with a two week Christmas break. Have been Captain onboard this and other company vessels

for the last eleven years, only ten more to go :-P . Any questions you have about our operation I will gladly answer. The link below will bring you to our company website.

Picture included is of vessel during harvesting operations.

Cheers

Must feel weird coming home to one of our little boats after being responsible for that giant and all those folks on board.
Thanks

Fred,

Not weird, actually very enjoyable, although some of our friends question our sanity, being that I spend over 180 days a year at sea to come home and set foot on another vessel. Currently at sea and will return July 2nd; plans have already been made to leave later that afternoon for a couple of days of R & R. It a very nice feeling to not have to worry about crew safety, production schedules, maintenance periods, :banghead: all that is associated with work. As far as being a giant,( really not that big, LOA 150' Beam 44' 1100tons) it's just a boat, pointy at one end square on the other. I have learned long ago that the key to handling most ships is patience and a cognizant awareness of your surroundings. I am fortunate enough to have very capable department heads working alongside, they make things easy.

cheers, Capt. Happy
