Suitable dinghy for a 2001 Carver 444

Postby 4patter » August 1st, 2013, 3:22 pm

My wife and I recently purchased a Carver 444 with the intention of living on and cruising the Bahamas and Southern Florida during the winter months. I was wondering what other owners have done to store and carry a dinghy. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Remote control davit on the aft hardtop, with the support pole going down to the aft deck, at the rear port or starboard corner. Get a hard bottom dinghy. Mount the chocks on the hardtop.

I've seen somebody has installed a very short rail all the way around the hardtop on one of these so you don;t slip off if you have to go up on the hardtop. Looked nice.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Because of my age, I hesitate putting anything up on the hardtop, but might have to do that. I have been looking at the portable boats that look like they can fold down and would fit and tie down on the swim platform, but have never actually seen one, and wonder if they are difficult to open and launch, and a major question for me, are they truly sea worthy? Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. The divats on the hard top might turn out to be the best option for my wife and me.

I've never seen a folding boat, but I don't think I'd like to be unfolding it and folding it on the platform. And hanging an engine off of it, along with the fuel tank, etc. Doesn't sound like a safe thing to do.

Good luck in your search!
Thanks
