Re: Seeking Advice: Carver 42 (Crusader Petrol) from Bahamas to Turks & Caicos
I know that the Crusaders are definitely underpowered for the 4207, I found that our 4207 with the 375hp Cats was even underpowered, and if they’re anything like the Volvo 7.4 gas engines in our 36, they are definitely fuel hogs.
We brought our 36 aft cabin from Portland, Oregon, down the Columbia river and up the coast to Sidney, BC., which is about 320 miles, and we fuelled up 4 times on the way. Not that we could probably have fuelled up less times, but being a new boat to me, I didn’t want to run too far between fuel stations.
Our 4207 with the Cats used about 6 gph at 8 knots, and our 36 uses about 8-9 gph at 8 knots, so the gas engines definitely burn more fuel.
Just my opinion of course.
