Grease would not cause that, unless you really packed it in there and blocked the water!

I'd open the raw water pump and make sure the impeller is still in good shape. Even a brand new one can fail if there's a manufacturing defect. When you replaced them before, were ANY of the vanes missing? They can work themselves downstream and not cause any issue for a while, and then move into a position where they're actually blocking things off. Is yours driven with splines or a key? If a key, are you sure it went in OK when the impeller went in? Sure you're not sucking in air anywhere from the seacock to the raw water pump?

I have reread all this and there are maybe a few things we missed. When this overheat takes place have you checked the exhaust water flow out the side visually to verify good flow/weak flow or no flow. If you change impellers again, try dish soap as a lube, you can always tell flow from the soap in the exhaust stream on start up and can not plug things.

Considering you have checked and rechecked the raw water side, let's look in a different area. Have you checked your engine thermostat, maybe sticking not allowing antifreeze to circulate and cool .....have a look inside to verify circulation by engine circ water pump.

Maybe pressure test engine cooling system to verify ok and cross off the list as a culprit.

FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Any grease or lube you put in is long gone by now, not the problem. Check out post #7 of this thread on another forum. https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-fo ... -help.html

Does anyone, long shot, know the model and type of strainer on my 2004 360 Sports Sedan? I want to see if our marina has the top gaskets.
I know it is very similar to this.

I remember doing the same thing...they (the marina parts) wanted some rediculous 25 bucks or so for one rubber ring gasket..........I made lots from 1/8 cork sheets from the craft store for just my time and a few bucks of cork.....still got some in a drawer.....remember to retighten evenly across the top after initial change as the gasket will compress a bit.....keep new spares in boat.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

I wonder what the dimensions are for the seal, and how they would compare, say, to a toilet flush seal from Home Depot??

Here's one, but there's probably 1/2 dozen different sizes...

Not sure what type you have but our model years are close so maybe just an O-ring like on mine? Went to my local seal supplier and have a bag of 10 for each the 3 types of strainers (AC, engines and Genny) even picked up the little ones for the small drain plugs on the engine strainers. Why so many? Minimum over the counter purchase is $20 and that came to a little over $20 for 40 O-rings. Just got to know where to buy them. ;-)

This where I have been buying seals for over 40 years. No matter what you need these guys have it. Have had tens of thousands of custom seals made up over the years through them. http://www.sealsonline.com/rbmtl/en/con ... s-montreal
