Yes, it’s a nice clean boat, dry bilges. The Flybridge cushions all have to be recovered. Now waiting for new engine to be installed.
I did come across another boat that I’m going to have to take a long field trip to see. A 1983 Californian 38 with twin caterpillar 3208T diesels, new electronics package, new coast guard class one Raritan ⚔️Flo Scan electro sanitation system. Do you have any opinion on the boat?

That is quite a different direction from what you have been looking at.......custom designed trawler with a semi displacement hull.....good cruising boat.....what has made you head that way ??

I had seen the ad previously in the $40000+range, but noticed it today at $36900.

what it comes with seems too good not to investigate-- as long as it's as represented.
I spoke to the broker, and it seems that a husband and wife fixed the boat up to winter in the Bahamas and then do the ditch come spring. The ad refers to a health issue, but it appears that the wife passed away and now the husband just wants to get rid of the boat. I'll be going out to look at it next week.

I personally would not consider a saltwater boat of that vintage. The purchase price is most likely the lowest expenditure you will experience.

You're probably right, I was looking at the "accessories" coupled with the twin diesels for cruising. But I'm getting a bad feeling re the broker. Didn't supply an inventory with offer of sa!e claiming the ad was 2 months old, wants a certified check for the deposit refusing to give bank transfer routing instructions to an escrow account, or to reveal seller's info before closing.
I think I that I'm going to walk away and proceed with the Carver.

I agree, considering....Quite the learning curve, never fails to amaze me all the different versions there can be in a boat deal...wow. I am not suggesting anything just curious/spitballin here. Could all that be because you are miles away?

Do you mean the reluctance by the broker? I was ready to fly down next week and make a deposit beforehand,subject to survey and sea trial. I've received documents from another broker that I had dealt with re a Florida boat and received wife instructions and inventory immediately. So I don't think distance has anything to do with it.
