1997 Carver 405 Raw Water Heads

Recently I manipulated a freshwater line as an alternative source for a fresh water flush to my aft head that is a raw water electric / macerating Raritan model. My modification allowed me fresh water flow through the impeller to a working head while on the hard getting work done. I am researching a freshwater head to replace the raw water Raritan I currently have for ease of use and less potty boat. I also am looking for a model that would allow my wife with no plumbing knowledge to use without guidance. The local plumber that preys on the dock for victims told me he could switch both heads out for 8,000. I told him to let the clutch out and keep moving. Any experiences with switching out heads is appreciated. Thanks

Another option would be, is to convert your current heads to freshwater using a electric solenoid for the freshwater line coming into toilet to turn flow on or off. Also would need a adjustable water flow valve. Pretty straightforward conversion.

Thanks Makin Time, Have you done this before? Sounds easy enough but I have not used a solenoid on plumbing before.

I will attach a photo of a Jabsco solenoid with siphon break. We used this on our last boat (Larson 290) with macerator toilet worked excellent. Pretty straightforward install, plum a line from the fresh water tank and tee the solenoid in and wire in with the switch for the macerator that currently flushes your toilet. There is a valve on the back of the fitting to adjust water flow coming into toilet.

Very nice, I am not sure of the power draw on my 405 OEM Raritan. I will have to check the power as the motor looks like the starter on my diesel truck. Thanks

You could always draw power from somewhere else for the solenoid and it comes with a relay still use the same flush switch you have. That how mine was wired.

on my past trojan i installed a raritan marine elegance head and it operates very simply and you can use a freshwater line to it. it works just like at home.

The draw for the jabsco solenoid will be almost nothing, you can tap off your current flush switch, ad a 5 amp inline fuse as your head probably has a 50 amp circuit. I would also bypass the flush water impeller by running the hose from the solenoid directly to the bowl and remove the raw water impeller from the raritan assembly.
