can you check the voltage and polarity of the original source? That may tell the tale...
The good news is breakers are cheaper than ac units, battery chargers, TV's and stereos.

The only thing that both shore lines have in common is the genset switch over as far as I can think of and the power source you are plugging into at the marina. I had an issue with a marina plug years ago and I believe the neutral at the marina plug was bad. But that would just trip the panel main each time I plugged it in, it didn't take the breaker out. This is going to be difficult one. I'm thinking out of the box here but if the switch over on the genset is shorted on and you hook up shore power wouldn't you be supplying 220 volts or looping 120 back at it's self.

I certainly will Check the ship to shore switch. I have never had the distribution panel off. Is there a secret to it? The switches are at the bottom of the panel. Can you get to them with a meter probe?

I have cancelled my cruise to the north channel and will return to home port. I'm about 60 miles away. I hope to charge my house Batteries (4 golf cart batteries wired in series parallel) with the alternator on the trip back. Once home I'll decommission the frig and cut off the DC main at panel. This should leave plenty of power for the bilge pumps while the boat is under repair.

Thanks for the brain trust.

Still waiting on new enterance main breakers. UPS had a flight delay.

Question:. Has anyone had the surge errester trip? I see it in the wiring diagram but cannot locate it? Is it somewhere in the distribution panel? Is there a reset to it?

Replaced breakers and good to go. Have removed the genset out of the circuit via it's breaker. Will address genset issues with a good Marine electrician.

The job of replacing the breakers went much easier by entering through the aft stateroom headboard. The cables we're very accessible.

PS the marina gave me two days on dock at no charge.

Kudo's to that Marina. I'd send them some Flowers! LOL It appears you are leaning toward the generator/shore power switch over as being the culprit in the double breaker destruction. I've never had the DC or AC breaker panels off, but I'll bet it'll be a PITA! Good Luck and lets us know what the culprit was.

actually on a 405 its very easy to access the ac dc distribution panel. if you will take the phillips screws out along the top and sides leaving the bottom ones it will hinge open from the top. you may need to also take out the plastic door catches at the top of the cabinet. the wiring etc. will be easily accessed then. there is no auto crossover for genset its a manually switched shore selector switch as dsolo knows but fyi for others.
dsolo i also do not know of any surge arrestor that you mentioned anywhere.

Replaced breakers and everything working. Made sre generator breaker is in off position and will not use generator until we have in put from manufacturer. Not sure what caused breaker issue? Hope to find causal factor for peace of mind. Was it shore power? Generator circuitry? Or age of breakers?

Trip from Onekema to north channel has gone prefect since the breaker issue. Boat is running well and meeting great people. Two storms out of three weeks on water. You might say I have had smooth crusing. Hope to be home by August 2. Take care. Dan

Where did you find the breakers? I had one go bad and can't find a replacement on a 1994 390 CPMY.
