92 28 sedan switch question

At the entrance of our 1992 28 sedan there is a small switch at eye level with a little lamp on it. My logics would say that that is some kind of a main swith for all the lights inside on the ceiling. However, nothing changes when I flip that switch to on or off. it is wired with blue/black wire and I only see that in combination with lighting.

What was the original purpose of that switch?

That is possible, or it is a switch for courtesy lights outside. 8-) er

I have numerous light switches on my 356. The only one that has a built in indicator light...engine room light switch.

I'll make a picture tomorrow.

When standing in the doorway (cockpit behind you) it's on eye level on the right hand side.

Perhaps it used to switch all ceiling lights. They were replaced (deducting from the square markings in the ceiling, the lights are now round an all have their own little switch) That would make sense when you enter or leave the boat.

I'll investigate further, haven't found it on the diagrams either.

Open your engine room hatch and turn on the switch, and I suggest doing it when dark. Mine is so faint, you can only see the light when dark. The bulb itself can’t be seen unless I’m standing on my head and I can only see the light it gives off.
If you don’t see light in your engine room, there’s still the possibility there is a light there, but the bulb has died.

Could be cabin, or interior or exterior courtesy lighting.

Yep, that looks like it should be for courtesy lights. Maybe a light in the steps down into the cabin?

Thanks, I will check that. There is one little light at the bottom step but that has been rewired bij a previous owner.

I've ordered plastic white screw-covers/caps so I can take some panels off. If I do that now, the current covers desintegrate to dust.
