In-hull transducer / 03 Carver 444 or similar

Hey all,

I want to install a Garmin P79S in hull transducer on my 03 444. In looking at the specs it says not to install on cored hull or a hull that's over 5/8" thick,

I know these hulls have cored sides but not bottom, so that should be fine. Does anyone know the thickness? And has anyone installed a similar unit (I think most companies sell a version of the P79S) and had any performance issues?

Thanks in advance

I believe your hull in that area is going to be at least 2" thick. The basis for this is a conversation I had with Carver when I bought my Mariner 6 years ago. They had pulled the build log and disclosed a minimum 2" depth to the bottom. Having said that, my depth gauge transducer is installed inside hull at about midship. I have no issues with my depth readings. They are normally very similar to the depth reading on my Garmin with the transducer hung outside of hull on the transom. Good luck! You may want to check your owners manual for core material. Carver used coremat on a number of models. 8-) er
