Refrigerator

Postby tonyiiiafl » February 20th, 2020, 7:32 am

I am looking to replace the original Norcold refrigerator in my 1994 CPMY. I have seen new NORCOLD and also a unit I never heard of named Vitrifrigo. Any input on theses. My NORCOLD is a little harder to cool, but it still works good, just thinking that this will be the project this year. Also, anyone ever bring a unit in and out? Doesn’t look like ther is a lot of room coming in the sliding door to the aft cabin up the stairs, across the salon and down he stairs into the galley. I tell you this boat has more stairs than my house.

Thanks!

Tony

In my 405 I replaced my crappy norcold with a vitrifrigo 2600 an 8.1cu ft unit a few years ago and it's worked great more interior space Keeps ice cream hard too. They have good reviews and a good warranty too. Watch for defender or similar stores to have some boat shows sells etc. to save some money. You may need to take off the doors to gain a bit more access to get old one out and new one in.

The Vitrifrigo is a far superior fridge to the Norcold. I had to replace mine in my old 356 and the Admiral found it to be better on a number of fronts. My friend is a distributor here in Ontario and he prefers them as well. I found it to be easier on the batteries when on the hook and it keeps things colder, with more room.

I am also going to replace my current fridge with one this spring as well.

So IMO a great choice.

I replaced my Norcold with the new, improved Norcold last year. Yes, it will fit through the door - that's the good news. The bad news is although the new one uses less power and has some improved features, the "Notcold" is still not a great frig. It does fit the old hole perfectly, but maybe the Vitrifrigo does too? The Vitrifrigo is expensive, but so is the Notcold. Check the dimensions carefully as sometimes the opening is very hard to change.
