Any recommendations on repair or replacement of a 1999 Rairatan model 85 icemaker? It appears that the module that contains the small motor that controls the harvest of the ice may have failed. Replacement cost is $130.00 plus.
Not sure if the other components will hold up long term. New models are $1k plus.
Thanks.

How much ice do you really need. It seems all marine/rv ice makers are pricey. One possible solution is a portable ice maker that can be stowed when not needed. Of course the cheapest is a small ice chest filled with ice from the local quick-mart.

Talked to rairitan tech support. Good trouble shooting process. Narrowed down the problem to the control module board. Ordered a new board on line for $114.00. Removed old module and installed new board which has a small motor that turns the ice ejection fingers. Unit is now making 22 lbs ice/day.

It feels good to fix something, doesn't it?

Great job!

You can tell your wife you saved a thousand bucks and you'll be spending it on something for yourself.

Yep! Seems like the control module fails on these ice machines. I noticed that the previous module had a 2006 date. Looks like these modules last about six years.
