For those who don't know, I am an new Carver owner. Today I found a one inch drain hose with hose clamp lying under the forward shower sump. At first it appeared it came off one of the sump manifold flanges. A quick inspection of the two vacant flanges (the third being the forward head floor drain) disclosed no openings at either flange. It became apparent this hose was connected to one of the flanges. It also appears it caused problems not draining and was disconnected? The is some evidence of past drainage. My guess.the hose is either from the forward stateroom ac, or the drain for the windlass compartment? I have not had time to trac it down.

Can I assume the sump's manifold must be trimmed as the flanges get used? Perhaps this was a factory mistake?

On my 405 fwd sump box there is a connection for galley sink,ac condenate drain and fwd head floor drain and sink drain. The drain for the anchor storage does not go to the sump box. I have a bilge pump in this area to me and the size hose you are describing sounds like this is the hose for the bilge pump. Is there one in there?

A one inch hose for ac condensate seems kind of big to me but you never know. Most anchor rode lockers drain overboard now. Don't know if your vintage does the same. Usually they'll have a small stainless clam shell vent over the drain hole at the bow of the hull. You could try pouring water in the shower and see where it shows up, same with the locker. If you can access the condensate/bottom tray of the ac unit, pour some water in it and check where it drains to. If the line is from any of these locations, you need to hook it up to the sump or you'll have stagnant water sitting in the bilge which you'll eventually end up smelling in the cabin.

Guys I failed to state the hose is coming from the bow to the sump. It is either the AC or rode locker?

g36 I do have a bilge pump in the area, it is aft of the sump. The little water in the bilge is clear and bilge has no evidence of ever having brown water in it. I will find where the bilge is pumped to.

The aft head sink drains directly through the hull. It has a loop in the hose and attaches to a plastic through hull fitting.

I do not have a clam shell covered drain. I will try to locate where the drain goes.

I have access to the AC unit and will check where the drain goes with Viper's suggestion.

Will keep you updated once I am at the boat next week.

Here's an update on the forward sump. The hose that was not attached to the sump was none other than the sump's discharge hose. The discharge flange was broken off flush. Looked all over for the broken off piece, nowhere to be found. Someone had to have removed it from the hose and clamp? They left the pump to discharge into the bilge????

What I mistakenly thought was the discharge hose is the AC drain pan hose.

Also found the shower floor drain connection had the sump's flange melted and calapsed inside the hose and clamp. There was some history of leakage. (Lucky the forward head was not used for showers.) Someone must have applied heat to the hose while pushing onto flange?. It is 1 1/8" hose. Hose could take alot more heat than the plastic flange. Always heat up a hose then install on cool flange.

Ordered new Atwood shower sump. Will make a discussion on replacing lines all lines.

Yup always fun finding PO stuff.......something I found works great for expanding hose if you are going to do waste hose as well, especially 1 1/2" waste without heating a lot is a tail pipe expander, the 1.5" to 2.5" size one, no struggling at all, makes the job fast and easy, no damage.....just google oem tailpipe expander,if I find a link I will post it if you are interested .......

I can tell you that sometimes it's just not worth it, I'd rather not get the job! I much prefer doing work for an educated boat owner rather than one that doesn't have a clue about boats, their systems, and the potential dangers. They always seem to be the ones most difficult to deal with and then try to tell me how I should do my job. While some are a pleasure to share my insight/experience with, convincing others of something you know must be done or doing it a certain way can be futile at times. That's okay, pay me now or pay me more later I always say.
