The temps here in Texas dropped below freezing for about 3-4 days. Cokes and beer that I had in the fridge were frozen. The head stopped intaking water after that. Maybe the housing did freeze and crack but I haven’t looked yet. Anyone have that issue or other freeze problems? I figured the boat being in the water it would have adequate insulation.

Did you check to make sure no one closed the seacock.

If you are taking it apart to replace the impeller, you just as well do the whole rebuild. When you say the previous owner did it a few years ago...what is a few? May be time for another.
Hate to see you take it apart just to replace the impeller and next year, you find that the duckbill needs to be replaced.

If the seacock was closed I would have been the one that did it. You know what they say: “You know what the only thing is on a boat that works? The Captain.”

Just checking. Sometimes, even the most experienced, overlook the obvious.

Update: fixed!

I removed the housing and the impeller. Everything there looked perfect though. The housing was fine. I cleaned it up, put the impeller, lube, and seals in. Works fine now!

One thing I noticed was that the 4 bolts holding the housing (and cover) on were not really tight. They were barely snug. My guess is it would have worked had I just snugged up those bolts and tried it again before replacing the parts. It might have just been a small vacuum leak that caused it to not get enough suction to pull the water up. But, it works now so I’m happy! Just an FYI to anyone reading this in the future, try tightening those bolts if you know the impeller has been replaced fairly recently.

Good news!
If the crown head has any leak it wont draw, or if it does draw it will leak back down between flushes causing you to flush for quite some time before rinsing the bowl.

Always a great day when you solve a problem aboard a boat. Hope your head problems are in the past.
