With very high freshwater temps and living aboard full time,I am having to clean A/C strainer weekly. It was suggested that I place a small chlorine (pool) tablet in strainer to help. It sounds like a reasonable solution, however I do not want to damage coils or other components. Any experience/feedback would be appreciated.

It has been suggested to use a small portion of a bromine tablet provided the strainer has no plastic parts. Will report the results.

Years ago there was a round plastic container for a pool puck that had a screen in it, installed in the engine intake water line that only allowed chlorine when it was off......cannot for the life of me remember the name of that thing, it worked though and kept the outdrive clear.

I placed 1/2 of a bromine tablet in metal strainer and the results have been very positive. I have had no growth or buildup in the strainer. I hope this is helpful-
