My 2000 396 Aft Cabin has a leaking hot water tank. I have ordered a replacement but I am looking for any words of wisdom for an easy replacement process. The tank is located under the berth in the aft cabin. The removal looks straight forward but I am guessing there are some things about the reinstallation which a pro already knows.

I am hoping someone can provide some "tricks of the trade" so I can avoid any problems.

Did you determine WHERE it's actually leaking?

Many are just leaking from the overtemp/overpressure safety valve and that can be cleaned or replaced.

As to replacing them... they are pretty straight forward as long as it fits out of the hatch.

Note that if it has a heat exchanger for the engine you're going to be dealing with antifreeze too. Make sure there's no pressure in the cooling system on that side before you take the clamps and hoses off at the heat exchanger (and that the engine is cool).

Obviously, shut off power and depressurize the potable system before you begin.

Thanks for the comments. It is leaking at the bottom. I had a boat mechanic determine the source of the leak but he doesn't have an opportunity to get to it for at least three weeks. I do not believe it has a heat exchanger for the engine but I will make sure before starting.

Could also be raw water heat exchanger lines as my 405 does in this case just deal with a bit of water, no antifreeze. It's pretty straight forward try getting as much water out of the old one before taking it out.
Take pictures with your phone beforehand if in doubt where stuff goes.
