Just purchased an 89 3807, I see a toggle on the main panel for the Genset but no start button or meter, any ideas? Thanks for taking the time to review my question, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Terry

The toggle you are looking at should also start the genset, it should be a 3 way toggle, stop/neutral/start. There will also be a toggle/button directly on the generator. What model genset does the boat have? Mine is an ONAN MCCK 6.5 gas genset.

Thanks for the info. Mine has the Koehler 7.5R . The only Switch I can find is the one on the main panel, its a two way toggle that just has off/Start, however I was reading something yesterday that would indicate that the the two way toggle switch may be the only one and that the Generator just stops the starter once the engine is started. I was looking for the remote control panel that is apparently an option because when I tried to use the start toggle nothing happened. I guess I will need to check the connections etc from the battery/Switch. Thanks again for your time.

Terry

Is there anything in the owners manual about the start/stop procedures for the generator? That might be a good place to start, there is a section in my owners manual for it.

the toggle is momentary both ways and center postion off. hold one way to start and let go once started to stop unit push other way hold till genset stops and let go
there is a switch on the genset that operates the same way if it wont start form either then time to check battery switch but you should at least here it trying if not then the relay the switches activate may need to be looked at

BTW I wanted to thank you all for your time and info on the Genset issue. It turn out that the switch on the unit is by touch only as you cant see it that side of the unit but the problem it turns out was simply the Battery being dead and not connected to the charging system. Thanks again.

Glad you got her going. For the benefit others, on my 1989 3807, the switch at the AC panel is an ON, OFF switch that stays in the ON position when you let it go. The Kohler disengages the start circuit on it's own. There is a switch on the generator to start and stop the unit and a "Remote" position that must be selected if you want to start the unit from the AC panel.
