98 405 Ignition Keys

Okay I am beginning to wonder if I am a jinx to my boat. I moved it to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi a couple weeks ago and then we get a hurricane. Thankfully we didnt get a drop of rain and very light wind as it went east of my boat.
So I am leaving the boat yesterday and realized I didnt have my keys. Yep they are gone and I surmise I left them on my cargo cover of my F150 before I drove away.
Any thoughts on replacing the keys/ switches?
I called Pat in parts at Carver and he was most helpful. They didnt have have the parts but maybe Cole Hersee would? So I called them and they are obsolete with no replacement part number.
I probably can remove the switches and get keys made but I was hopeful to simply get keys from Carver or new switches because they are 20 years old now.
Cabin door is locked as well
Any thoughts because I didnt see this topic on the forum anywhere?

Most of the keys are pretty generic, not a lot of different cuts. Ask some others in the marina if you can try their keys, especially Carver owners. If you find some that work, make copies.
Best of luck!

Some of the older locksmith shops have books and online lookup tools that might be able to narrow it down

If it's a standard run of the mill ignition like most boats, it may be easier to buy new switches. Only 3 wires behind there to deal with. as a bonus it comes with a spare key.

It would be easy to replace the ignition switchs on the 405 plenty of room to get to the back of the dash. If you do go to west marine or similiar. look at the ignit in sets they have and notice the key numbers you may be lucky and find 2 of the same number. They will then be keyed alike like they are now.
If the salon door is locked before trying to break in a old trick is to go to the hatch over the salon door or the hatch on the front deck and while pushing down try to rotate the round pieces on the hatch which are attached the hatch handles inside to try and get them to unlock

On a previous boat I got ignition lock sets from Napa, worked fine......just pick the right amount of terminals for run and start to match your boat.........

I actually got tired of my key saga on my last boat and converted it to push button start. Who needs darn keys I say.

Do you remember the numbers of the keys. Perhaps some of us would have a match and could get a copy made and sent your way.

Not a bad reminder to make sure you make copies of the keys. Use those and put the originals (with any stamped numbers) in the file. If you ever sell the boat, the original keys will be "like new".
