Replacement Accent Lighting Question

Postby bmalmquist » May 4th, 2020, 11:55 am

I am trying to determine how I can replace my stair and other overhead accent lighting either using the original 12v incandescent lights or just 12v LED. I can't seem to locate lights that would fit inside the existing tubes. Also, I don't have access behind the stairs but there is a little slack in the wires so I would need to solder the new connections to whatever it would be on the outside.

Does anyone have any experience replacing these and if so with what? I have attached a couple of photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well haven't replaced these since we do not have them on our 355, how ever LED would be cooler and less amp draw and I see they are googleable and found some 0.5m or 20" long for $11.00 usd! Or you could take those apart and solder in new bulbs available at any auto supply store.

Just a quick question, what was your search criteria to find them? Do you have a link by chance?
Thanks!

Go to Amazon. There are literally 100s of them. Buy a roll (or two) of white or colored (RGB), you can cut them to size, and you can also buy extra connectors separately for each step. Get the ones that are waterproof as the components will be sealed. There are also little U shaped fasteners available for them. You can also get remote controls, changing colors, sky's the limit. Warm White will give you about the same look you have now.

I've used them over my kitchen counters at home and love them albeit I chose a Cool While for that. I'll also be installing them over the counters on my boat, in the closets and pantry, and get rid of the old bulb type light fixtures in those locations. I'll also be replacing the old rope lighting around the underside of the aft bed and valance above it.
