Inverter Noise in VHF

My VHF radio has a loud hum that disappears when I turn off the inverter. There is a filter on the DC side to my radio. Any ideas?

It could be RF interference from the inverter itself. Or there could be an AC power line close to the antenna lead. If the inverter has a metal case try connecting it to your ships ground. One way to determine if the problem is on the power or ant. lead would be to disconnect the ant. while the hum is present. if the hum is reduced or goes away then it is an RF problem. Note.. DO NOT transmit without the ant. connected.
Good luck ... Aaron

Hi Txcruiser,
The most likely cause is the inverter itself.
First disconnect all loads from the inverter. unplug all loads and not just switch them off.
If the hum persists it is the inverter and it needs replacing.
What is the make of the inverter and size.??
Adding filters is not in my opinion the way to go.
