83 3607 need to remove salon panel

Postby StuartNewman » July 21st, 2020, 7:20 pm

I need to remove the panel in the salon panel from the helm to the stair. Not only does it need to be recovered but the plumbing is leaking in several places. I will also need to replace the fuel filler hose and the fuel lines that is behind this panel.

I cut he panel vertically behind the trim but can't get it to detach by the stairs as it is secured into a trim piece that is attached to the aft wall.

Thanks for your help

Your plumbing is not behind that panel. Well, the exception to that statement is the shore water hookup. There are removable panels behind that shelf in the "cubby" down below (the black carpeted area). You need to remove the shelf (2 screws on each end, under the shelf) then remove the two panels - each one has four screws.

But, like I said, that only gets you to the shore water input. I believe you can also reach the back side of the shore water input just by going in through the electrical panel. Open it up and stick your head in there and look aft and you'll see it.

The plumbing runs under the main salon deck, but right along the starboard side. If you pull the lower removable panel in the "cubby", you'll see it. There is a "T" fitting right where the feed is in the aft starboard corner and one side then goes forward to the galley and the other side goes across the aft end of the engine room to feed the tub and continues on to feed both the aft and fwd heads.

EDIT: actually re-thinking what I wrote. The shore water input is really too high for that cubby access to do you any good. I think you have to go through the electrical panel access to get to it.

There are also two removeable panels at the base of that cubby. If you take those out you should be able to see the "T" fittings in that back corner. Those access panels are just "lift out" panels and are normally used to get to the fuel sensor and fuel hoses.

I understand how to access the removable cutouts however I need the panel off to acess mutiple items and to recover the panel properly.

On the Facebook Forum It was suggested the aft portion of the panel (indicated by the red arrow in picture above) is fastened in the Aft Berth's closet and under the deck. I have seen some screws in the closet, located rather high, but not any others.

Can anybody relate to me how they removed the salon panel and how they dealt with the electric panel?

The panel does not extend into the aft closet. There are probably screws in there that hold the 1x1 blocking that's behind the panel. Did you take off that trim that the red arrow is pointing to? I believe you'll find screws under there. I have not taken that off (never had a reason to) so I'm not exactly sure.

I've not had to take that panel off and I've replaced all my water hoses and fuel hoses.

I'm also confused as why you need to remove to "recover the panel properly". I believe they put the covering on that panel after it was installed in the boat and then put the trim over that. I would think the hardest part about recovering the panels is getting the trim off around the cubbies... it's stapled in parallel to the surface and would be hard to pull out without causing some damage to the plywood.

And what do you mean by "how they dealt with the electric panel"? What are you trying to do there?
