central vacuum

Postby rjr » June 15th, 2019, 6:41 pm

Has anyone added a central vacuum? We had a central vac on our Four Winns and it worked well. I'm thinking about installing a shop vac or clone in the engine room. Haven't measured anything yet. 3 gallon might be good size. Not sure about the hose and the suction power as it would need to reach bridge. Open for comments.

I have central vac system on my 2004 36ss and it's convenient and effective; however, it will not give you the power of a shop vac. It serves its purpose.

The "Wall Vac" brand that Carver used are OK but nothing to write home about. I do have experience with the Dirt Devil brand and must say they work very well. That being said I am now using a Dyson rechargeable as my boat is just too big to get served by a single long hose. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Dirt-Dev ... p/9614.htm

Midnightsun - thanx for link. I'm going to measure the space that the ice maker occupies to see if there's enough room to install a vac in there. I looked in the engine room but couldn't find a suitable location.

Keep in mind you do need to have access to the unit as the bottom snaps off to change the bag. in my case I did this once a year not because the bag was even close to full but more for odours.

I installed the Dirt Devil CV 1500 central Vac for RV's and Boats last year in my Carver 325 and it works amazingly well. Here is the link for the specs; http://www.dirtdevilcentral.com/WBA/Con ... entral-vac. I installed it in an unused forward closet in my 325 Carver Aft and there is enough room for the 7' hose that expands to 35', the accessories and the wand. The hose can stretch far enough to even reach the aft deck and bridge. I paid around $220 for it. I'd do this project again without question. As mentioned above, you need to leave some room up front for the cover removal which exposes the bag for replacement. I only change the bag once a year. Good luck

Yes, The Dirt Devil is a good unit. Had it on our Rinker. We removed the central vac on our Carver and now, like Hans, we will only use our Dyson. No hoses or bags, we turned the space into a liquor cabinet.
