I would contact the CL poster and ask for dimensions. It may not be the exact same as what would have been on your 396, but it might fit just fine. Also verify if the part facing the transom is curved or not and see if that would match-up well where it would go on your stern.
Can't address your question on how it was bolted on that model, but however you end up doing it make sure it's sealed well where the penetrations go into the swim platform. That is usually a source of water getting into the core if not done correctly.

16” H
23” W
69.5” L
Box door: 25” L x 24.2 W
It's taking up space in my warehouse and I need to get my hands off of it.
