We are new Carver owners - 1993 Carver 390 CPMY.
We are in Atlanta but the Carver is in Chattanooga.
Looking for a master electrician in the area. We would really appreciate any recommendations.
Thank you!!

Welcome Aboard. You have come to the right place for assistance with your Carver. Wish I could help but I am in Michigan. Good luck.

Also what marina? If owned by erwin marine they have now stopped ALL 3rd party or outside vendors from working on boats on their docks they say you must move your boat to get the work done at that parties facility and then return to your slip afterwards. Now getting a " friend" etc. Might be a way around this issue they have. Just sayin.

The boat is getting shore power as long as everything is switched off. But trips as soon as anything is turned on.
It's original wiring from factory (we are close friends with the original/previous owners) so there's been no tampering there. So, assuming there's a leak which causes the entire thing to trip.

Has anyone checked the shore power post for reverse polarity? If you turn all breakers off and just the main does it trip? If nothing trips then start by turning one breaker on at a time to identify the circuit causing the problem. Have you tried this? You didn't mention what marina it's ok if you don't want but I was trying to assist because it might matter who can work on your boat.

Upon purchase of the boat, it was at Harbor Lights, so we are there until we can get a slip in another marina - hopefully ASAP.
So, I think we'd be fine using anyone - friend or outside professional. Just want to get all issues resolved quickly.

Also, if you disconnect shore power and run the genny, will the breaker still trip? Main breakers do fail sometimes, they can seem okay until a load is applied.

Welcome aboard!
Good luck. Sounds like reverse polarity.

All, thanks for all the advice so far! We have not yet tried the generator to see what that does, good point. What we've done so far is run the power from the dock to the boat; the boat gets power as long as all the breakers on the panel are in "off" mode. However, as soon as we flip any breaker (no matter which one) on the panel on the boat to the "on" position it trips. We'd very much appreciate the offer to come over and have a look at this. We are in Atlanta but I myself am pretty flexible and I can make sure I am on the boat with a few hours notice.
