Hi all! Glad I found this forum. I have purchased a 1989 Carver Santego and have plans to restore it. My survey says that the port blower is inoperative. Insurance wont cover it until repairs have been made. I looks like the starboard is the only side that has ever had an engine blower? Any ideas of how to find out if this is correct? The way it is vented the starboard will actually draw air/fumes, ect from both engines? Is there a way to get electrical schematics for this boat? Owners manual? Need to get verification for insurance or have another installed but that does not sound like the best answer...Thanks and spring is coming!

Just guessing here, but what santego is it? If it's a 27, I THINK, they only had one blower. If it's a 30 or larger probably had two. There is a formula for the blower requirements of CFM /VS cubic ft of engine compartment space. You can look at USCG guidelines, or maybe someone here with the same model can tell you it only had one.

I agree with what Tom is saying. I'd query the surveyor to see what they're talking about and have them (likely) fix the survey. If there is more than one blower, the actual blowers could be mounted together, as their exit hoses would go to the same side of the boat. The inlet hoses would/should go to different areas of the bilge, most likely below each engine.

Is it possible the survey is talking about an exhaust blower for the HEAD?? Is the head on the port side and have you checked to see if that blower is functioning?

My Santego has two blowers, but I have no idea if they were fitted by a past owner or if they are original.

Thanks everyone, it is a 30'. Head blower is functioning. We are planning to reach out to surveyor Monday. He did specify "port engine blower inoperative". We will get this sorted out somehow.

The starboard blower may provide enough air flow to mitigate fumes, but you are most likely required to have both operating to comply with regs. That blower part is easy to find, if it is the blower itself. It may be more of an electrical issue at the connection points or a fuse. Those blower motors are pretty durable, so I would check electrical first. Anyone with a simple continuity meter can check for you. er

Welcome Aboard. Happy to see another Santego owner. I can’t remember, but I believe my old 3067 Santego did have two blowers in the engine room.. my current 3867 does have two blowers. The are mounted low in the bilge on the bulk headed directly behind each engine. They each blow the air out on their respective sides of the boat.

Thanks everyone for the info, there was only one blower in the engine compartment but insurance said we have to have two so paying for a complete intallation of blower and vents. The surveyor agrees with insurance and does not know why it would be manufactured with only one. I truely appreciate all the help!
