My boat was pulled today and I discovered....

Postby denpooch » October 18th, 2019, 6:59 pm

Today, she was brought onto the hard and I discovered a first for me.
One of the blades on the bow thruster (port side fan) was completely snapped off, and a second is now half of what it was!
During the season the thruster failed and when I took a look below I pulled out a bunch of rope and rag from the thruster. It must have eaten the stuff while docking. I guess its probable that I pulled off the blade when I was cleaning out the debris. It did give me a bit of a fight and I was working blind.
Has anyone ever replaced the 'fan'? Must I do both sides or just one? Is it an easy enough job or should I plan on $150.00/hour for the marine mechanic?
All thoughts are welcomed. Thanks.

Do you have the manual with a parts listing. I would think it's on the shaft with a set screw? Or just wishful thinking!

Good thinking. I will check it out. The guy from whom I purchased the boat kept everything. Thanks.

The make and model would help. Hopefully it's not a Volvo QL thruster.

I believe it is a volvo. Why is that not a good thing Viper?

Volvo discontinued the line several years ago and most parts are not available any more. If you post your model number, I can check and see if the prop and supporting hardware are still available.

Good luck finding all the parts you need. Fortunately you now have some time to search and find to get the necessary repairs done.

Hey Denpooch, did you ever get your bowthruster issue sorted out? I ran across this (https://www.getaprop.com/bow-thruster-p ... -propeller), and remembered your post.
