I'm not judging your decision and your free to do whatever but oem isn't always the best choice and in this case it's just spending money you don't need to. Everyone is free to decide but ice maker parts for home or a boat really doesn't need to be expensive. I've been a electronic technician since 1984 so I judge for myself what I think should be oem and what parts work just as well. I try to help save others money if they want to accept my advice or help no obligation to do so. Best wishes

g36, no problem no foul. I think we both were saying the same basic thing, that its not an expensive or difficult repair. As the OP has been quoted a price of $200. And I hear what your saying, and I’m fine with generics if I know that they will work. I will say however, that I have tried some of the Chinese knockoffs in the past, and found that to be a mistake. While they where cheap, they didn’t last long and I found I would have been better to have bought a more expensive part the first time, specifically I bought
Chinese shower sump recently off Amazon. Nice price at $35, but it only lasted about three months and I was replacing it again, so I bit the bullet and purchased a Rule sump pump. Now I know whirlpool is an OEM manufacturer and they also make many parts for other brands and in some cases are the actual manufacturer of the other brands appliances. If I remember correctly, the mold I bought was made by Whirlpool and I used the OEM term in that respect. But I would be cautious as to the Chinese knockoffs, however others may have had good service from them.
