One thing is to take ones time when looking for a replacement boat. Most of my previous boats were either outboards or I/O's so I am familiar with both. I will try to avoid any Alpha drive boats. Will be looking for boats with Bravo II or III drives or Volvo dual prop drives.

One of my annual maintenance practices was to have the drives checked by the marina mechanic. They pulled the drive or drives and checked alignment, changed the gear lube and reassembled. Last time I had it done it cost $100 cheap insurance IMO.

The handling of twin inboards is tough to match but my last boat had twin I/O's and I really got good at maneuvering with that boat. As far as a single engine installation it's tough to beat an I/O or outboard. Not sure yet but there is a good chance if I do get a replacement boat that is an I/O I will rack store so the boat will only be in the water when used.

Lots to think about and lots to decide.

Rick, no matter how this turns out, stick around this forum. I get my weekly dose of humor from your never ending posts of jokes. How long did it take for your boat to sell? I have been kind of thinking about that, as a center console keeps crawling in the back of my mind. Not sure if I can give up the condo purpose of my Mariner. Nice to have that room and comfort, but seems my actual cruising hours are just not there, for whatever reason. Travel to grandchildren, admiral's schedule, availability of transient slips, weather anomolies being more frequent, etc. Good luck on the search! er

Lined up a couple of boats I plan to take a look at. Boat 1 is an 1998 Bayliner 2655 Ciera 5.7 Bravo III. I had previously owned a 1996 2655 so I am very familiar with the brand. Boat 2 is an 1990 Sea Ray Sundancer 7.4 Bravo II. Both boats show well in the photographs but seeing them in person will tell me what I need to know. Others I may take a look at:

I was going to donate the Carver to charity. Mentioned that to my Son in Law he said he wanted to buy the boat. There are some things that need to be fixed and I really didn't want to put more money into the Carver so I sold it to him. Basicly it sold in one day.

Darn, the Sea Ray sold yesterday. Was really interested in that boat. Tomorrow I will be driving across the state of Michigan to look at and possibly sea trial the Bayliner. A fair amount of boats available. The second person to look at the Sea Ray bought it.
