Anchoring

I have a question for the group. I own a 2002 carver 42' sportsman. She is the same boat as a later model 420 Mariner with the large rear arch and I had owned one of them for a few years. Both boats have a weird tendency to swing when anchored. I can't tell if it's the tide , wind or a combination. I have tried long scope , short scope , and tied off at the bow cleat , nothing seams to stop it. I have 5/8" nylon anchor line and 30' of chain and generally anchor in inshore areas along Florida's East coast so problem with holding , but the swinging is annoying at best. Help or suggestions , please.

If you don't want to swing with the wind and tide you need to use stern anchor also.

Have to agree with Tom on this one, no other choice other than beaching her!

If so equipped, setting the parking brake may help?

You can try a double snubbing 'bridle' system using 2 ropes from the 2 forward cleats. There's a system made in USA by Mantus. You can goolge & take a look. This will not solve it, swinging at anchor is normal for power boats without keels, but it will help.

Setting a 2nd anchor off the bow in a "V" formation will stop a swing.

+1 on the stern anchor as well, but ONLY use a stern anchor in an anchorage with other boats if everyone else does.
