we just had a good post on oil so got me thinking if any of you with gas boats regularly or occasionally have oil analysis done? what lab do you use? just "standard" or any special tests? transmission oil tests also?. i did all this when i purchased my 405 several years ago now wondering about doing it again. thanks for your input.

I use Blackstone Labs. They'll send you the bottles for free and you send payment when you send in the samples. I know lots of folks who use them and like them.
I just started using them a couple years ago. Wish I would have done it sooner, so I'd have more of a baseline to be able to tell the differences over time. Some of my friends have used them since they got their boats (even though they were used boats).
My tests always show "gas dilution", but that's not surprising since I still have carbs. I just did the standard tests.

I have used black stone for years. Very affordable at 28 bucks a pop, cheaper if you buy a six pack of future analyses. Detailed report with a paragraph of what they found and concerns or looks good. Be well, guy

I've used Toromont and Volvo kits for both gas and diesel engines and generators, and transmissions. I don't recall the costs but you purchase them up front and it includes postage and testing. In Toromont's case, I sometimes just drop the samples off as there is a branch close by.
In the case of an impact, if the insurance company denies covering for transmission removal and dismantling for inspection as part of the claim, I insist on transmission samples right away for a baseline, then testing again at the end of the following season for comparison. If the second sample raises any red flags, the insurance company is contacted and expected to cover costs to remedy as part of the original claim.
