My 2019 season is over. Time to start planning the 2020 season. My boat club has quite a few trips planned so I could have a busy season. I am retired but do work. My boating monies come from my work. I was part time but in order to get my weekends off so I could go boating I moved into a 40 hour position working the midnight shift. I actually spent a bit less this year because I also used that income to buy new living room furniture, a new watch and a new 65" LG 4K TV.

Did not cruise as much as planned due to less than stable weather pattern in our area. Also, no repairs.
Storage 1600 ( warm storage )
Haul 600 ( 2 trips from storage to marina )
Gas 900 ( our gas is $3.10 USD gal )
Oil&Fil 150
Slip 1840
Spark P 40 2 sets MR43T
Trans slip 200 ( 12 nights in Door County, WI )
Insurance 532
Polish/wax 80 ( incl misc stuff - spider spray, day cleaner, zipper lube, Imar cleaner etc. )
Total 5920
Considering I can access my vessel all year, I don't consider these expenses as spread over 5 or 6 months. I did not add beverage expense, that would have gotten me closer to bud37.
Rick - you forgot insurance & lift out/in. Bud, what do you have for a vessel?

I did't include my annual insurance policy. Going to have to look that up and add it to the total. Haul in and haul out is included in my summer dockage and winter storage figures. They do not charge a separate fee. If you were to pull the boat for any reason during the season there would be an additional charge for that. I believe they charge $165 for that.

So, when we do realize what a reasonable amount is each year, do we divide that by hours put on boat engines, or hours spent on boat including dock time? OR, do we just not think about it and ENJOY OUR BOATS?

I'm of the opinion, I DON"T want to think about it,

because if I DO,

I won't be able to ENJOY MY BOAT

You know they say ignorance is bliss!!

Boating costs X amount of dollars each year. There is nothing one can do about that so I just enjoy the boat. It is good I believe to know where the boating dollars are spent therefore the spreadsheet.

I do not keep track and honestly do not want to. Would be different if the boat was a business rather than a personal place of enjoyment/relaxation. Why would I want to know it costs me $500 an hour to run.

Kinda defeats the purpose of enjoying the boat.

No matter how you slice or dice a boat is a money pit which regardless of cost, will always be my passion.
