Insurance Says No

Well I just received from my insurance broker yesterday, the company that has held my policy for the past 5 yrs won’t renew us. We have no claims, boat is in very good condition with every required update that insurance companies require.
We are a 1984 Carver3227, they gave us no reason other than we are not insuring boats over 30 yrs.
Has anyone else came across this? If so who did you use? We are BC, Canada mind you.
Thank you
Troy

I have heard of age restrictions for some insurance companies, not many. Contact your broker and ask them to check out Progressive Insurance. Don't think they have that issue. Good luck!

There are many marine insurers in Canada. Odd they say that now, cause they already insured your boat over the 30 year max, unless that is a new rule for them now, heck there could be others changing coverage rules, interesting. Thanks for posting. ....Hopefully you got lots of warning.

There are a few in Canada. I am insured with April, here is a link to an on-line quote. Worth a shot.

I ran into that with State Farm on my old Chris-Craft. Progressive gave a better rate than Snake Farm and you can do an online quote. I vote for Progressive. Go Flo!

I just flipped over to Royal Sun Alliance. They are very reasonable and there contents coverage is $14,000 v.s. what I had at $5,000. The big difference was their mechanical coverage, that includes damage due to marine life, where a number of them, like my previous insurer, did not. Always check the exclusions when looking at the policy, you may get a surprise. I always have coverage for total policy value v.s. replacement value as well.

Who was your coverage with??
Does force you to shop around, which could be a good thing - you might end up with a lower rate or better policy!!
I would check Progressive and also with Boat US (Geico). If your current policy is still in force, it will be easier to get a new policy.
