Did you know HomeDepot has boat parts?

I am in the middle of replacing my bilge blowers. I got the old ones out and went to the local marina, which has a pretty good stock of parts, etc. I purchased two 4" bilge blowers at a price of $68 each. I thought that sounded high and when I got back to the boat, ran a search online using the same brand, and model number. I found that HomeDepot sells boat parts and they had the same blowers for $30 each! My local store doesn't stock them, they would have to be ordered, but next time I will know.

Be really careful with that option. There are some equivalent marine parts at big box stores, but not that many. I had a guy come in last week, very disappointed in the venting hose he attached to his blowers. He bought dryer vent hose, and it fell apart on him in less than a season. Not that big of a difference in price, but he was more upset with the time and physical strain of running hose through his bilge in hot weather. That plus, marine stores have an expense relative to having parts on the shelf. That plus most good marine stores have experienced boaters for support and recommendations. Just remember, if a store owner can't make a profit, they disappear. Simple economics.
