Anchors/Ultra Anchor

I have been around and used anchors for quite some time. I swear by plow style anchors for my waters however some are better than others and some look better than others. Looks can come into play as it does sit on the bow 24/7 except for those days one anchors out.

That being said my favorite by far is the Mantus anchor, bites like crazy in all conditions and digs deep however they leave a lot to be desired in the looks department. The Manson supreme comes in a close second which also performs almost as well as the Mantus.

Had a few Deltas over the years on different boats but to be honest, they are OK at best. The work rather well however initial bite is an issue but once started they dig fairly well but are limited to dig depth by design and tend to unset in rough conditions so I am steering away from those. My fancy polished Stainless Steel "Carver' anchor is a Delta takeoff and is not exactly making my nights comfortable when things get rough in the middle of the night so I am going to change it.

1st choice is a Mantus however it may be a fitment problem on my boat plus they looks pretty ordinary. I came across an Ultra Anchor which really seems to be the ticket except for price which is way up there. 46 pounders seems to be what I would require. Anyone have experience with one of these?

Their ultra Flip Swivel looks interesting as well.

I've looked at mantus for awhile but never bit yet. We anchor mostly in muddy bottom sometimes alot of weeds. I kept wondering if it would set properly if we spun around and it got turned upside down and the bail just kept sinking in the soft mud rather than righting itself.

Wanting to spend more nights on the hook, but also wanting to able to sleep knowing we will not un-hook, we need a new anchor, had the Rocna on a previous boat, Admiral wants a Rocna again. I think for our waters, that's the way to go but I don't have any experience with the Mantus.

Rocnas are great and right up there with the Manson Supreme which IMHO is a copy of the original Rocna.

Hans ....have you ever tried any of the anchor swivels on the market recently. I tried a few ( not this ultra flip ) and really if we were anchored in tough spots with tidal swings they would concern me. Maybe they are ok now but they always seamed weak when on an angle. We have no experience in salt other than a beach in Maine and Florida ... ....but they did work on G Bay and certainly in sand etc but on a rocky bottom where the anchor got stuck with tides , well I just don't know how that would end........

It will be interesting to hear the experiences of others in regards to the swivels.

I do have a swivel but care must be taken when choosing one as most are the weak link of the rode The Ultra swivel claims to be stronger than the chain. I presently have a Mantus swivel, this thing is a beast and will be the last thing to let go. https://www.mantusmarine.com/mantus-swivel/

So last night, had some time, believe it or not, to do some reading. If I went to the Mantus site, theirs is the best. If i went to the Rocna site, theirs is the best. Gotta love that!. Anyway, I found this article that was a good read. We've had the Rocna on our other boat, and looking around, I believe I'm going to stick to the Rocna.

We had a swivel on the our Carver and removed it for a straight bolt-on. The swivel was jamming a lot and made recovery un pleasant. Not sure if I really need that again.
