Boat Insurance

Postby Flott » December 15th, 2021, 2:10 pm

I need to get boat insurance for a boat I brought to Florida recently as my Michigan Insurer will no longer cover me. It's a 2005 360 Carver Mariner which is kept at a marina on the west coast of Florida. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I've had both Progressive and Boat/US (Geico) and was fine with both of them. I'd make sure whatever coverage you get that you understand exactly what the hurricane requirements are though. There might be better insurers for that kind of risk in FL.

I have Markel insurance now also had Boat US , never had a claim but Markel was way cheaper for equal coverage for my coverage, situations may very. Depending on last haul out you may also have that as a added expense for new coverage. Ket us know who you eventually end up with.

Thanks - I'm not familiar with Markel but I'll check them out. Right now I'm looking at Skisafe which is an organization I've insured a small boat with before but didn't realize they did larger boats. Friendly and helpful people in their price is very good. Flott

For years I considered insurance primarily based on the cost to insure the most value ( agreed on number )......but I have come to realize that really the ultimate value is how a claim is handled and whether it is paid out fairly. That could be hard to figure out though.......
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

I have Progressive. Really happy with their claim service. I had a claim for collision damage and recovery of boat that had sunk, due to collision. Found out by pure dumb luck that Progressive is one of the few companies that include recovery and salvage expense with their standard policy terms. Get the coverage through an agent, instead of online self serve. Then the agent can assist if you have a claim. Premiums are very competitive. Good luck. 8-) er

I'm currently using United Marine Underwriters . Great prices and good service.
