I would like to remove the painted on name from the transom without damage. Anyone have a sure fire bullet proof method for this that will leave no damage?
Thanks for any and all help

I had mine professionally removed and they used Easy off oven cleaner, it was a lot of work and I'm happy I paid to have it done
Good Luck

I wonder if a vinyl wrap could be placed over that section or the transom (or just paint over it with a new background color) and then you can put the new name on top of that? Since you’re not removing the old name, think of the time and money you’d save by not having to re christen the boat to appease Poseidon!

Depending on how long it's been on there, you might still see an impression from the old name. On my old boat, I removed the name but the gelcoat under the name was "protected" by the name so all the other areas were ever-so-slightly worn. At certain angles of sunlight, you could still see the old name. I never put one over it, but that would have helped mask it.
But anyways... removing the old one. Depends on what the old one was put on with. I used acetone and some scotchbrite pads to remove my old name, then used some light rubbing compound and then polishing compound to bring the shine back.

We put vinyl over ours, looks great, then buffed around it to blend. Didn't cost as much as you would think $500 for complete job ill try to post pics
