Watching the devastation this morning........ Hopefully our Florida members/families and our leader escaped this storm safe......good luck and Godspeed to all affected......

I am patiently awaiting news as we do have a family condo right on Fort Myers Beach. Plan was to go down late December for a couple of months. Hopefully all is well.

Hoping our Floridian friends come out of it better than expected but it didn't sound good from up here. Good luck and keep us in the loop.

Fort Myers Beach is a total loss. Our condo was on the first floor. I say was because the storm surge took out all 1st floor dwellings in the building. Ripped through the ocean side and punched out the land side wall. Going to be years before this mess is any anywhere close to being fixed up. Hopefully not too many where injured in this catastrophe, the rest is just material.

Sorry to hear that Hans! But you are right, it is just stuff, and can be repaired. Hang in there bud! er

Still waiting for some concrete news on the Condo. The building itself seems to have faired well however the homes on each side are gone. Here is satellite imagery of the unit, (Big unit) pool seems to be still there and the roof seems to be in pretty good shape. Looks like we are due for an interior update after all these years. Been going there for close to 50 years now, lots and lots of memories for sure. Heck even went there with my first girlfriend when I was 17.

Fingers crossed and a bunch of prayers. Maybe you are more blessed than you realize! Good Luck. Keep us posted! er

Just wow. So sad to see.

Utter devastation in that area...infrastructure gone, people have lost everything, homes, possessions and no jobs, no proper insurance......seen this in the panhandle a few times.....takes years to recover even a little, there are areas up there that are still barren 15 years after. Imagine in one week you go from paradise to hell.......hope there is someone looking over these folk......prayers from here.

We have friends in Naples and they are ok but for power.....but they are higher and a good mile from the gulf.

It's weird when you look at some of the after-hurricane satellite pictures. There are many areas that were very close to the eye of the hurricane, or on the "northeast quadrant" (which is supposed to be the worst) and homes and even boats survived pretty much intact. Then you see nearby adjacent areas that are a mess. Look at the pic below. The area to the left heads out to the gulf and is where Ian came from. You'd think most of those boats to the left would have been washed out to Miami but they seem to be just fine. Looks like a few might have broken lines or pushed pilings over. Then you see the marina (or what's left of it) over to the right and what a mess that is.
