I have a 1987 Mariner with the 6.5 KW MCCK generator. The current generator started smoking and making a loud banging noise and after having someone take a look at it sounds like the main bearings are bad. So instead of wait to have this generator rebuilt I bought a rebuilt of the same model. The only hard part is now that the new one is here I need to swap them. Has anyone ever pull and replaced the generator on this boat?

I haven't, but I have the same boat and seems simple enough. I'm thinking it fits through the cover.

I think the lifting it out of the boat part is going to be the challenge.

Disconnect everything, loosen the mounts, pull it up to the marina sea wall, connect chains and have them lift it out with the forks of a forktruck. Or if they don;t have a forktruck, get a towtruck with the extendable boom come snatch it out.

An old decent size prop shaft and a couple of strong buddies will do the trick too. Chances are the marina will have a few old bent shafts lying around. Ask if you can borrow one. Attached a length of chain to the genny and loop it around the shaft. Lift it out of the hole, then pass it over the side to a couple of more buddies on the dock. Have done this several times but a forklift is definitely easier.

Oh, and a case of beer ;-)
