I am a new owner of a 2005 366 Carver with 8.1 Crusader gas engines and don't know what kind of oil to use. The oil fill cap on the motors say ASE 15W 40 however the only 15W 40 I can find is Diesel oil. This can't be right? Any recommendations ?

Welcome to the forum........if you got the original carver case with the owners manuals in it, there is probably the engine manual ....check to see what it says.....sae 15w40 is common and if you are referring to rotella t then there is a gasoline rating on it or there used to be ( check the back). Lots of guys use it with no issues, I have for years but check your manuals to be safe..... :beergood:

Rotella has a dual gas/diesel rating. However, any good quality oil will be perfect. even a West Marine brand. I am partial to Mercruiser/Quick Silver 25w40 myself.

Thank you both for your replies but the only 15-40 I can find including Rotella say on the front of the container that it is for Diesel. It does not mention gas.

Been using Rotella T 15 40 in all my boat engines for years. All gas. Currently 6 big blocks, 2 454 crusader, 1 588, and 3 572.

Rotella T is the only inexpensive oil out there that contains Zinc. Zinc has the molecular properties to help keep the oil clung to metal parts so there's never a dry run. Its for both gas and diesel. I too use nothing but Rotella T in my Crusaders 7.4L and know may other users that put it in every engine they own and have for years. Mike
