oh man. that's what I was afraid of.
Heres my costs so far.
650 to repair engine. 300 to reinstall
600 for bearing carrier in outdrive, new lube, paint etc and rehang
stringers?
inside transom plate? is that a huge worry taking on water?

+++1.....bare min for heads alone would be resurface etc, etc....not real sure about that gasket being the cause, that would have to be verified.

That alone with my est. comes up around 10 to 12K, with your purchase price in....the estimates are never right are they ? What does it cost in your area to send a boat for scrap would be another consideration, as you have some saleable parts there to recover some of your cost so far.

Look, anything can be repaired and restored, just depends on the total cost you are prepared to lay out, one of the many reasons boats cost more than cars to restore is they are difficult to move around once you get past a certain size.

I hate to be the bearer of news someone does not want to hear, but, Tom & Bud are absolutely right. Just looking at the pics, we can assure you this is a money pit. Save the agony, recover what you can, and start over. The fixes you are thinking about sound like minimum estimate to get running, but you will never be able to have any confidence in this vessel. She has had her day. At least you have a chance of minimal loss at this point. Good luck. Sorry for the news, but it could be much worse in terms of expense and safety. er

Mechanic noticed two cracks in interior transom assembly. 2800.00 for that. He feels transom is not bad as far as softness.

What is the "interior transom assembly"... a casting? I'd want to know why it cracked. Is that 2800 for the part? If so, you could probably find a replacement at a boat junkyard for much less.

It mounts inside of transom then bolts go through transom to grab outer assembly

Well if anyone needs parts for a 1995 250 mid cabin express let me know. Boat has a full canvas top, mooring cover, camper back with screens,extended swim platform and most of boat in good shape cushions etc

Check out if there are any salvage buyers in your area. Just go to a marine store and ask if they know of any. With that list of parts, and especially a trailer, you may be able to get out for your expense. Just don't tell the prospective buyer what you paid. Then you don't have to worry about disposing of the hull when everything is stripped. Too bad you're not in my area. I know a guy that would easily pay what you need. Good luck! er

I bought a 26.5 Bayliner a few years back for $1. Basically the PO wanted it towed out of their yard. After conducting my own year down, found dry rot in the transom. Boat is dead but the motor is new and the trailer is in good shape so I got the value out. The boat will either be "yard art" or a retirement project.

Absolutely get a survey with water meter/transom test and a compression test. My 2 cents...
