My first post to this forum. I am going through pre-purchase inspections and survey on an '88 32' Mariner. Mercruisers with about 1600 hours use on Georgian Bay. I would appreciate all tips and advice about problem areas to be on the lookout for.
Thanks for all responses. George

Welcome to the forum..... I know this maybe doesn't answer your question specifically but in reality your surveyor should have a good handle on where to look on certain different boat models and makes.....really as we have said in the past it has more to do with how the particular boat has been maintained over the years.

Perhaps someone with the same year and model can chime in.......good luck with your purchase.....who is the surveyor if you don't mind me asking......

Thank you for your reply. Surveyor not yet retained, phone calls tomorrow. The name Buchannan has been mentioned to me. Do you have a recommendation by any chance? Boat is near Port Severn. And thanks again.

Dave Buchannan is one of the best at his trade. If you're the buyer, he's the one you want. If you're surveying for insurance renewal, Dave is pretty thorough and may catch items that your insurance company will want remedied prior to insuring the vessel, so keep that in mind. I always say there's two types of surveyors; the ones you get when purchasing, and the ones you get for insurance requirements. His son surveys as well but not as experienced as dad.

I called Dave Buchannan for the appraisal on our 88 Santego which is a similar boat.
He showed zero interest in my business. Actually found them to be quite rude.
However I have heard others say good things.
I ended up using someone else for my survey.
