Hello All!!
I am new to the forum and I have a 1981 Carver Mariner 33ft. I have had the boat two years and when I purchased I was told the steering cable was bad. No biggie, right? Wrong! My cable is obsolete and I talked to the manufacturer and have a replacement part but I have some questions about how it’s attaching to the rudders because the two cable have differences... any input would be much appreciated. Has anyone had to replace theirs?

Welcome. Can you post some pictures of the cables and fittings at the rudders might help get assistance.

This is something I would have a good marine mechanic look at. Steering cables can be tricky, and if installed just a little off, can be the source of perpetual troubles. Really sucks when you are 25 miles from port and completely lose steering capability. I did learn something though. Thought all Mariners had hydraulic steering, but apparently not. Good luck. Here is some info on your steering system. Go to section D 8-) er

I have the same boat. My cable is seized and I am looking for a replacement. Could you be so kind as to forward the replacement cable number and manufacturer.
