I own a 2000 406 and I am searching for the USCG Official VESSEL PLACARD. I thought one was supposed to be on the boat but I can not find one so far. Any advice will be appreciated.

You probably don't have one. They are only required under a certain size vessel... maybe 25'?

If you are referring to the official number it would look like this

If you have a USCG registered vessel, then you are supposed to have the number on a placard mounted permanently (screwed into place). Typically, they are located in the engine compartment in a dry area.
However, there is no hard/fast rule or someone checking to verify it is there. Lots of boat owners never install it.
Mine is a freshwater boat and does not have it. Previous owners never installed. If I ever took it to the gulf, I would make one and install.

That is the manufacturer’s HIN…hull identification number, not a CG documentation number.
The CG number will look like…. NO. 12345678

A couple things…screwing in the placard is not a good idea. Best to use permanent adhesive. CG regs say the numbers have to be mounted in such a way, if removed, would be obvious. Unscrewing a couple of screws isn’t very obvious.
Second…if you ever get stopped by the CG or marine police, they will want to see your original certificate of documentation and they will want to see your mounted numbers. Not having them is an invitation for a citation.
Third…salt water or fresh water, they don’t care. You need to follow CG regs.

First of all, is the boat CG documented? Assuming it is, owners often get creative in placing the numbers in hidden, out of the way places. Have you done a good search? It could be in the engine room, under a berth, inside a closet, etc. And not necessarily on a mounted placard. Mine are stick on numbers mounted on a bulkhead inside a closet. They are coated with several coats of varnish, so if removed, would be obvious, per CG regulations.

Maybe some confusion going on with what the OP is looking for. Do you have a Certificate of Documentation? If so then yes you do have placard somewhere assuming the previous owner installed one.

A USCG placard is something an owner may choose to have however it does not come from the factory with this. It is a federal registration which is not mandatory for recreational boaters. Your State numbers on the front portion each side of the hull is all that is required. There are some reasons why you may want to do this, this should explain it. https://www.mpofcinci.com/blog/complete ... for-boats/

It would help if the OP came back and clarified what he is looking for and confirm the boat is CG documented.
