Re: Carver 396 - How to remove aft cabin night stand
Fortunately they are just held in place by a few wood screws inside the cabinets.
Unfortunately you will definitely have to get on your hands and knees to find all the screws.
Fortunately once they are all out the cabinet will just lift right out of place.
Unfortunately they are bulky and awkward to move around.
Fortunately you will find some great access to some important equipment (galvanic isolator, shore power connections, shore water connection, port muffler connections, black water line connections....just to name the ones that come to mind.
What specifically are you looking for? Maybe I can help.
Good luck!
Kyle

Once you get it out and while you have it out you might consider how you could use some slip hinges or slide brackets and/or
some "Marine Locker Hatch Stainless Steel Anti-Rattle Latch Boat Fastener Clamps" on the inside to re-fasten it down when you're done!

Thanks for that info! I figured there was likely someone who has done this!
Right now, I'm simply looking at trying to get back there for cleaning, carpet shampooing, etc., but also looking at someday replacing the aft stateroom carpet. It all lifts up easily — except under the nightstand. Thus looking at the option of taking the nightstand out in order to remove that entire carpet, taking to carpet store to have a new piece cut.
Luckily in 11 years onboard, haven't had to access anything back there, but have thought about it when changing the shore water valve, etc.
Again, thanks for the info.

Knowing now what to look for, you are on the right track. I now see that a PO had done pretty much that — replaced the multiple screws with only 2 obvious key screws, so looks like the job would be fairly easy, even for an old guy! Just a matter of handling the thing to get it out of the way. Now just have to work up the energy to add it to my never-ending ToDo list!
