Just a quick question. Where is the FM antenna from the radio mounted in the salon? What kind of antenna is it?

The one in ours appears to be original and is just one of those antennae wires, and is hanging behind the entertainment centre ...I couldn't find anything else....... :beergood:

That is what most boats seem to have for a radio AM/FM antenna. I have only seen a few boats that have an actual antenna.

Mine has a 3ft whip mounted on the port side of the fly bridge. I assumed it is a factory install but don't know for sure.

I have an 8' Shakespeare fm antenna on the other side of the arch from the vhf antenna. If for no other reason, to keep the vessel symmetrical in appearance

Has anyone had luck putting a VHF antenna splitter in? Does is degrade the VHF performance?

I also have a 3' fm antenna on the port side of the bridge, seems to be factory as the wire is bundled with the rest.

I used an identical band splitter on a previous boat. I didn't notice any change in VHF performance, however, if I had the vhf and the radio on, I would often hear the vhf through the radio speakers. It seemed this only happened with a strong local vhf signal.

I don't recommend a splitter - seem to impact performance both ways. If you are in a very remote area, consider a small amplified antenna mounted somewhere in the cabin (even behind a panel is OK). Terk makes a good one and one I currently have uses a 12vDC power supply:

I had the splitter on my Silverton 42C, and had no problems. I am about to order one for my 506.

Lyndon, did you order your splitter?
If not let me know, while cleaning the garage I found a shakespeare 4357s splitter. Brand new never used. I am bit AR and usually buy two of everything.
If interested you can have it for $30.00 plus shipping at cost, probably about $6.

Let me know
Tom
