Why would I not use Epoxy Putty under the water line?
Has anyone used epoxy putty instead of gel coat repair?

Really depends on the job and your pocket book. Epoxy is way more expensive. Part of a major osmosis bottom job IS to putty the bottom with an epoxy putty. I use West System products to accomplish this, then fair it out, coat with a few applications of a barrier coat and finally an anti-fouling coating. Several steps involved to this but yes you can use an epoxy putty as long as you prep properly. Why are you considering this; repair or preventive maintenance?

Its hard to explain, a picture would do here.
Its a small void between the rudder base and hull.
Its about the width of a pencil, 5cm deep and 10cm in length.
Not alot, just need a filler.
I was going to use gelcoat with fiber filler, to make it a putty but I was tihnking epoxy would be just as good...and its already a putty.

The one thing about what I mentioned is that it is easy mix equal parts , you can see when mixed right and epoxy is generally compatible with other materials.....for filling blisters and repairs thru the gel it is seems to work just fine.It is a bit pricey for two small cans in the kit but if stored right it lasts for years.I think you will be fine choosing any of those products mentioned.......good luck man.......

A picture would help. Are you sure this isn't part of the design? Is the other side the same?

I try to speak the language...
I suppose it should have been 5mm deep and 10mm in length....but...still a pencil is a pencil.
