Rudder angle indicator

Postby tgebler » April 1st, 2019, 10:59 am

I have a 2000 396 aft cabin and the rudder angle indicator does not work. Any thoughts about how to get this gauge working again. Any help would be appreciated.

It'll either be the gauge, wiring, or sender. First check and insure the sender hooked up to the rudder in the aft cabin is actually hooked up and moves freely and does a full sweep when the wheel is turned. With the rudders centered, the sender should be in the middle of its sweep. If all looks good back there, with the power on, short out ground and the sender terminals at the back of the gauge. The gauge should peg. If it does, chances are the gauge is fine, and there's an issue with the sender. Make sure all connections at the sender and gauge are clean and tight.

What brand of unit is it? Besides the gauge, is it hooked up to any navigation screen, autopilot, etc. also?

I assume you have verified you have power? Most likely tied into one of the ignition circuits or an accessory circuit. If so, follow Vipers suggested checks.

I cannot remember what dash gage houses the display........do you have the multiple display that has the rudder position with another display , or is it on it's own ?
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.
