Rudder Shaft connection

My Riviera's rudder shaft is firmed up by a flange that is supposed to be bolted to a pressure treated 2x6.
Problem is, there isnt enough wood for the bolt to hold on to.
Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to fix this? I'm gonna try to attach some pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. I'm sure I will figure something out but figured it is a good idea to see what you all think or if anybody has run into this same problem.

Many thanks,
Pete

If that is pressure treated then someone has replaced it over the years. You could just put a bolt thru with some sort of washer on the other side then tighten a nylock nut on to it. Unless you mean the hole cut in the board is too large.
In that case the washer thing will work, just use 1/8" Al plate to fit underneath to fill the gap....kinda make your own flange just in two pieces to fit around the shaft.

What ^^^^^^ said.

OR, some carpenters glue and a slither of wood beat into the hole. Let dry for a couple hours then insert same old screw.

Thank you guys for the help. Replaced fuel fills and hoses along with the head fan yesterday. Hoping to get to the rudder today.
Best,
